experiments

portrait 1

I'm really having a good time with all these experiments lately. Yesterday's onion was my first attempt at colored pencil, today was my first attempt at a portrait with colored pencil. I used the same method as the crystal--I used a black and white image for inspiration and then used cool and warm colors in a slightly methodical but mostly "going by feel" way. When I started, my kids were like, "Mom! Isn't she supposed to be black? Why are you using blue and red and yellow!?" but at the end my oldest pronounced that my weird and unorthodox use of color had produced a satisfactory effect. Ha.

All I know is, I'm taking advantage of all this inspiration while it's around. I'm all too familiar with the cyclical nature of inspiration/creating/crashing on the couch with a book till it hits again. Strike while the iron's hot, yeah?

Peace out.
