ta-ta for now

it's not that i haven't been making things lately. in fact, i'm forcing myself to resist the urge to list all the neato things i've made in the last few weeks, to upload pictures and share. i'm resisting for a reason, and if you want to know you can always go read my reason on my other blog. or not. it's up to you.

suffice it to say that this blog is going to be hibernating for awhile. not forever, but for awhile.

the final tally

so here is all the swaziland stuff that was finished--at least everything i've received. tomorrow was my "due date" and there still might be some other things brought to church tomorrow, but for now--this is it! i'm pretty excited about it. i mean, it's nothing compared to say, craft hope, but then i had a very short time period to get this done and it was a first attempt.




i threw together two more quilts this morning as a last minute effort, but now...stick a fork in me, i'm done!

me bake pretty one day

i have to admit, i just adore the way cupcakes look. and taste. do they really taste different from a slice of cake? i think so--if for no other reason that they're cutely proportioned.

sadly, i never get to make cupcakes. hubby no likey, and they're kind of a pain in the butt if you're just making them for yourself and the kids--especially when the kids are just as happy with a handful of chocolate chips. but today i was having company, so i decided to try Martha Stewart's Chocolate Graham Cracker Cupcakes with Toasted Marshmallow. i was prepared. i was excited!

then sadly, my company couldn't make it (i really hope your son feels better, heather!) but i trudged on with the cupcake process. easy boxed cake and canned frosting cupcakes these are not, but oh...are they yummy! and pretty!!



don't they just make you want to take a bite right out of the picture?? i especially want to just take a tiny nibble out of all those nice browned marshmallowy matterhorns.

now, if only i can keep from eating them all myself. i must resist...

super awesome

while i was pregnant i let my brother borrow my guitar to use at church, but now that my giant preggie belly is gone i've been jonesing to get my strum on. my friend jen was nice enough to let me borrow her ukulele and i've been getting my fix messing around with it. it's super awesome. i always wanted to learn to play the ukulele (and the mandolin, but those are really expensive) so i've been browsing online for fun things to try to play. whilst i was perusing, i came upon this gem. you really have to watch the whole thing, it's ridiculously rad. i told my husband that i think being part of a group like this would be nearly as good as getting to be an extra in one of the lord of the rings movies.

i'm rather proud of this, in a ridiculous sort of way. i'd never made anything like stuffed animals before this project, and after making a few with other people's patterns i decided to try my hand at drafting my own. i wanted to make a little owl that could stand up on his own, and voila! yes, i know it's silly. how hard is it make a pear with pointy ears and a few darts? not very. but still.

i'm also proud of my hand-sewing skills. generally i consider myself allergic to hand-sewing, as it requires dexterity and patience and a lot of hunching over and poking myself in the thumb with needles. but after forcing myself to learn the ladder stitch and blanket stitch i decided i might as well try them out. i really like the little something it adds, don't you?
